Social Media Addiction: Social media to most people is an escape from reality. It is a place where mostly anything and everything goes (except for breaking the law obviously).
Imagine a virtual world where your looks, height, anything that has to do with a physical appearance isn’t a problem. A barrier or an obstacle in your interactions with anybody and I mean anybody is exclusively possible. Take Twitter for example, one can easily be chatting with the president of America simply by replying to any of his tweets. You can interact with even your preferred artist with no much struggle. You can make new contacts for your business without too much work or physical appearance impression.
Now what is the chance that one wouldn’t be stuck in a virtual world? where literally what you could term as your highest dreams can be achieved.
This poses as a problem in reality, let’s call it social media addiction. And this addiction, like every other addiction has a solution.
Controlling Social Media Addiction
We know most things people get addicted to find their way into our heads slowly and end up becoming our monsters. If you realize in time that you are getting addicted to social media, this monster addiction can be tamed before they become monsters that are bigger than us.
I will be listing out two set of approaches (Little & Deadly Monsters) that can be used in controlling social media addiction but in all, the most important step is the willingness to get rid of this supposed problem.
How to Control the Little Monsters of Social Media Addiction
Assign Value: Repeatedly ask yourself if that session of social interaction you are about to have is worth it.
Get Busy: Get into activities that can help tame your incessant need for social media interaction.
Physical Interactions: Have your friends visit you or you do the visiting yourself. No friends? Make some.
Relive Your Social Media Post(s): Go through your previous interactions you’ll have a feel of the things you wouldn’t so love about your time on the internet.
Silence Your Notifications: If you finally have your attention taken away from your social media interaction, a notification from your device will only ruin your effort.
How to Control the Deadly Monsters of Social Media Addiction
Deactivate Your Account: Yes, this is a red flag for your sanity so go ahead and do it.
Get Help: Pay a visit to a therapist, talking about your addiction could be a positive step towards breaking its hold on you.
Remove The Apps: There’s no doubt we often know where our problem lies, so get on it. Delete those apps from your devices.
Let Someone Change Your Password: Get a family or friend and give them access to your social media accounts. They can help tame your addictions by being the only ones with access to your password.
Remove All Unfamiliar Social Contacts: We often have contacts we don’t know personally just to make us have a perfect world on social media. Delete them!
Go Professional: Enroll for a professional course or try to acquire a professional skill and just do well.
Above all the WILL (determination) to get over an addiction is the key to having all these steps work out for you. And the addiction to social media is no different.
